BU Grads Group Senior Session

A grad’s mom got in touch with me to cancel her daughter’s senior session the next evening because of rain. I reassured her that this was Boston and too soon to call it, and also, at that moment there was only a 25% chance of rain that next night so I recommended we keep the appointment. She opted to cancel anyway.

I really love senior sessions, so I was disappointed. As I sat the next morning doing some editing, I got a call from a mom looking for a last minute photographer for her daughter Hailey and a group of Hailey’s friends for that evening after their photographer canceled on them.

If that wasn’t the stars aligning, I don’t know what is. What entailed was an absolute blast of a session with seven theater majors! Absolute delight to collaborate with and I’m so glad it worked out.

Halle at Boston U

I had the great pleasure of meeting Halle while at Pardee School of Global Studies for a photo shoot at BU. She was at the front desk and chatted me up about how she loved photography. She asked if there was any way she could do some photography for us at BU. I’m so glad she said something, because I took a look at her work and knew we needed to have her on our team! I was happy to do so and thrilled when she could take on a photo assignment as a busy senior because she always came back with something good.

What an honor when she got in touch to book me for a senior session (the one disappointment in meeting her was that it was only at the beginning of this past semester, so I didn’t get to work with her long!). We had a grand time trekking around campus and she did an amazing job.

I mean, that robe toss as she’s looking back at the Pardee building? Epic! She told me he mom looked at the collection and said she looked like she was ready to take on the world! I coulnd’t agree more!

Weekend of Seniors!

Good sports!

To say my first weekend of October was busy would be an understatement. As busy and hectic as it was, it was also so much fun! Here are some senior photos I captured that weekend. Three seniors; Funmi, Jared and Jasmine, in downtown Boston, and a group session with Anissa, Patricia, Sofia and Sarah in Boston Public Garden and the Beacon Hill.

This was the first time I had a group of high school seniors together for a session and they seemed to have the best time together. And they were game when I asked them “Are you willing to lay down on these cobblestones?”

Ivone's Boston Public Library Senior Session

When Ivone got in touch with me about a senior session she told me she’d been looking around for the right photographer for quite a while. She was excited to have found me. I was excited too! Then my most favorite thing happened. When I asked Ivone to bring her parent or guardian into the email conversation to confirm her as a client, her mom popped in, confirmed, and then shared with me “(Ivone) will be your contact, as I’m trying to raise her to advocate for herself but if you need me just let me know.”

I could not have loved this more. The importance of being comfortable speaking for yourself and talking to strangers is an essential life skill, and I loved that it was being encouraged and instilled in her.

I met Ivonne, her mom, and sister in Boston on a gorgeous Thursday evening and we made our way first through Boston Public Library, then wandered the surrounding area for fun architectural details to work with. We had a blast and I think Ivone - as the kids say - ate it!

Lindy and Aidan's Twin Senior Session!

Lindy and Aidan's mom was on TOP of it! I got an email from her way back in August inquiring about my session services for this year. I love this kind of thinking ahead!

The plan was for a Tuesday evening session with Aidan at Boston University, followed by one the next night for Lindy at Emerson where she was wrapping up her own college career.

When crummy weather managed to threaten to dampen Lindy’s sessions, I photographed them back-to-back on the same evening, starting at BU, then hustling over to Emerson for Lindy.

I think we pulled it off despite the slight Mother Nature-caused time crunch!

Amor's Senior Session at Boston University

When I tell you I am grateful for this year’s senior session season, I really mean it. In April 2023, I slipped off a step on the BU campus and broke my foot. I was two weeks away from meeting my first senior session client for the season, and as reality set in, it was clear that I wasn’t going to be able to work with many seniors. I had to contact all of them and suggest a replacement photographer.

I was crushed. I really love doing senior sessions! It’s such a fun way to document the end of a college career. My clients are pretty much always pumped because they are wrapping up their experience, and it makes the energy of my sessions that much more fun.

Amor was no exception. When I arrived a bit early in Marsh Plaza for her session, I noticed that the trees were dropping their flower pedals and it gave me an idea. She was game when I suggested the idea to her when she arrived, and we had great fun with the truly biodegradable confetti made by nature.

Marsh Chapel had great meaning to Amor as well, so we spend a few very quiet minutes in the beautiful space, too.

Here’s a sample of her collection. You can click on the images to enlarge them.

Reghan's Boston University Senior Session

During the Senior Week Carnival, which is at Boston University where I am a full time photographer, I camped out where I had a good view of an inflated double slide. I waited to capture some great expressions of students taking advantage of the slide, and when I caught a photo of some joyous seniors, I approached the two to ask for their names for my caption.

When one gave me her name, I recognized it immediately. “Is your senior portrait photographer named Cydney Scott?” I asked her. She smiled back with some surprise and hesitancy, “yes!”

I stuck my hand out and laughed “hi! I’m Cydney Scott, your senior portrait photographer!”

Reghan’s mom had booked me for a senior session with her daughter, but we’d yet to meet at this point. We had a good laugh, wondered what the odds were of of us running into each other in this way before meeting, and told each other we’d see each other again in a few days for her session. You can see that photo HERE.

Cut to a few days later and Reghan and I had a great time wandering the BU campus to get a good variety of shots for her collection. It was a delightful time.

As we parted ways, I told her I’d keep an eye out for her on the field, since I would be there covering BU’s commencement two days later. “When I see you I’m going to point and scream like Elf ‘I KNOW HER!” I joked and we had a good laugh.

I was wandering the field that two days later at commencement when I heard my name called out from the crowd. I turned to find Reghan beaming from her seat. “I KNOW HER!” she yelled at me while laughing. It made me smile so wide. I love connecting with other humans.

2023 Fall Minis!

The fall weather in the Boston area really did a number on my shoot scheule this season. I am so thankful to my wonderful clients, who patiently hung on through two, sometimes THREE rescheduling attempts. Thankfully, I was able to connect with everyone, which made me so happy!

As always, it was so fun to see my returning clients and meet some new lovely people too! Arlington Reservoir didn’t disappoint with its variety of scenes and backdrops. Want sand? You got it! Want leaves? It has those too!

The G Family

The G family has expanded, so they gave me a call! I’m so glad they did. What a bright space and a bright family!

The W Fam!

I’ve been photographing the Ws for a few years now and this year we decided to do something a bit different. It was cold when we scheduled their shoot (not much warmer now!), and we thought inside would be best.

I asked them to think about things they like to do together, or things the kids enjoying doing, and I came over and shot a variety of posed and posed-candids. I think it’s a fun collection!

Summer Wrap Up

How did I manage to let the entire summer go by without sharing with you? I truly have no idea. Literally, I am sitting here wondering how I didn’t show off a few of the families I met with before autumn hit (has it hit yet?).

Well, better late than never?

Here’s a small collection from a few sessions I had over the summer…

Mini Sessions, Round Two!

I usually only host one mini session event in the fall. I invite clients new and returning to pick a time slot on one specific date and meet me at a predetermined location for a quick twenty minute shoot. It’s a great way to get family photos and for me it helps me provide photography for multiple clients during the busiest time of the year for me.

After my annual mini session day took place, my sisterfriend Maureen got in touch with me and said that she and a few friends would love to have mini sessions too. Typically I would let my sisterfriendclient know that mini sessions are a one day thing, unless multiple families want them. But in this instance, Maureen simply brought me clients, which was so amazing! I was able to provide photos for her family, her friends’ family, and a third family who signed up after I promoted the event.

We shots these photos out in Sudbury. It was a blast, the weather cooperated, and we met for the best light - in the late afternoon!

Will and Avery!

This year, twins Will and Avery and their parents met me at Land’s Sake Farm for our session at Lauren’s (mom) suggestion and it was a great choice!

Located in Weston, the farm (you should click on the link above and check them out!) welcomes photo shoots (we left a donation). Their grounds are lovely and rustic, and it was fun to wander and shoot along the way.

Kristin, Benjamin and Co

I think we can all agree that things are pretty rough right now. Political unrest, a pandemic making a mess of everything. At the time of this session in August, that was no different, and it was gross and hot too!

I felt some levity when I heard from Kristin who said her family was due for a session. I have photographing them since, well before they were a family! My first session with Benjamin and Kristin were for their engagement. Now they have two beautiful sons and I have had the honor to photograph them as they grow too.

Seeing them and capturing them together brought some light to my week!
