Dear Lauren,

Some of my most fun adventures were with you when we were kids. We met in second grade. You were tiny, I was tall. We played soccer together, watched Labyrinth and The Neverending Story over and over and never seemed to tire of them. We expertly reenacted scenes from Cloak and Dagger, making my yard into our spy territory filled with invisible doors and hidden spaces. Sticks were our "guns" against the bad guys. Now we are grow-ups and every time I am with you, I am impressed with the person you have become. You are interesting and funny, resilient and passionate about the world around us. One of the coolest moms I know. And brave! Let's not forget brave.

Love, Cydney

When you start believing people and you start valuing other people’s viewpoints, all of a sudden there seems to be a lot of work to do. And I think that’s scary (for people).
